I bought this adapter and the active version, assuming I'd have to keep the active one in order to run 3 monitors (as the other reviewer said). I kept this one because it works fine attached to my third monitor. The native resolution on the monitor is only 1,280 x 1,024, so it's possible that the active adapter would be needed for non-standard resolution settings.

Strengths:
works for converting a displayport to a dvi output, only with 2 monitors at a time
Weaknesses:
not well labelled as a passive adapter, will not work with eyefinity, will not give you 3 monitors working at once, it is another adapter with a similar model number (only one letter different). Very confusing when you are in the store and there are 10 different displayport adapters
