Seven years going strong

Strengths:

This card offers longevity, durability, and ease of installation.

Weaknesses:

The ports are a bit tight height wise.

Additional Comments:

I purchased this card in June of 2013. It is now July 2020, and I’ve just installed this card in it’s third computer: after seven years of daily use. Highly recommended.

Really nasty, Not Recomended

Weaknesses:

After installing this card and loading the drivers on a new build I used a high capacity USB to load all my programs (as I always do) as soon as i put it in, the mouse (also USB on this card) stopped working while the memory stick was in. Working around that I attempted to load programs from the Memory stick. It immediately came up with "could not find file" errors. Using my backup stick it did the same thing. I tried the memory subsequently in other computers but both sticks are now corrupt and unusable. These sticks have been used in several computers before without any issue and this unit destroyed both of them.

Additional Comments:

It handles smaller memory sticks with a few mouse jitters, and has not so far corrupted one to my knowledge yet, but this is only a couple of days in use. Still, this unit is completely un-trustable and is being replaced with another (any other ) brand. The cost in time to replicate those 2 memory sticks is 20 times the card, very bad show.

For Oculus Rift.

Strengths:

Works good for my oculus rift touch. Even though my pc says it was compatible.I still went out and purchased this. I put both my sensor pickup's and my headset sensor into as well, and works fine. And powered by my sata cable.

Weaknesses:

none

Tight fit in some expansion slots

Strengths:

Good price and more ports

Weaknesses:

Some cases the expansion slot is too tight

Additional Comments:

I bought this for my parents, tested it in my own case (older Cooler Master CM690) and was very happy with it, their case however (Asus Tower) required some filing of the slot for it to plug in.

4 port usb startech pci express

Strengths:

Was pretty easy to install on my windows 10 computer thanks to geeks on the way. I got a usb3 samsung 500 GB SSD external drive to go with it. Together with acronis true image home 2010 I got 1 hour and 40 minutes for a disk back up using usb 2.0, for the same job it took 29 minutes for the usb 3 backup (138GB). not exactly the 10times hype you read about. Overall I will still use it.

Weaknesses:

Forget the hype, the proof is in the eating

Additional Comments:

Still cheaper than upgrading to a new computer.

Good support

Strengths:

Good customer support line.

Additional Comments:

I had trouble with the driver install due to a problem with my computer and not their drivers. I called Star Tech Customer support and they spent over 2 hours on the phone with me trying everything to get this to install. In the end it was obvious that the problem was with the Install Shield on my machine and not their software or hardware. I had to call Microsoft and they cleaned my computer out of malware which was interfering with the Install Shield processes. After install was a breeze!
