Update review

Strengths:

Same strengths as before.

Weaknesses:

Weak Fan clip design

Additional Comments:

I prefer keeping my temps below 80° C. Using the same system as the April 20,2021 review. After three years, the cooler began to exhibit limited cooling. While locked to 110 Watts on the AM4 platform, Temperature is about 78° C, when running turbo boost at 143 Watts, it thermally runs away to 90° C. I previously was sittting about 15 ~ 20° C cooler when the cooler was new. I routinely clean the fins and always use Arctic cooling MX-6 heat paste and tested with fans running at 100% and ambient 22° C. Fans still spin without any issues. The heat pipes appear to be degrading in performance over the three years of use, not sure if that is normal as I never have encountered that before. Upgraded to Thermalright FS140 and now sitting at 75° C while loading at continuous 137 Watts. I will keep the old Arctic Freezer 34 for an older system which does not exceed 100 Watts TDP. Still, for the money spent, it exceeded my expectations, even after three years of use!

Fantastic (cooling pun)

Strengths:

Very good cost\performance Excellent cooling and airflow Quiet

Weaknesses:

Big (shouldn't be a problem in any standard sized case) Installation - easy, but not the most beginner friendly installation Awkward fan clips

Additional Comments:

Excellent cooler, it is large, but it doesn't interfere with the memory or vrm modules at all. Should fit in most standard ATX cases. Looks bulky, even by air cooler standards, but I'm replacing an AIO,so probably any air cooler would look unusually large. Key note on installation. Some motherboards may appear to have a loose backplate after installing the proper standoffs. If you install and mount the cooler properly, it will pull the backplate into place when you tighten it up. This is not talked about in any of the online installation videos I saw, and it seems to be an issue on random motherboards. This is NOT the same problem as the one the describe in the installation manual that results in them sending you a replacement backplate. Trust in their installation process when applying the thermal paste. They suggest using what looks like a verge amount of thermal paste, but I gave it a try in the way they suggested and I am incredibly pleased with the results.

Solid Performer

Strengths:

Quiet & Efficient - thick aluminum fins Competitively priced Solid CPU mounting Looks good without being boring - Multiple available colors for those who are conscious of looks. Nearly 1 year in use and still cooling without any bearing issues. (Good quality manufacturing)

Weaknesses:

Observation, not negative.. I bent the fan clips by accident because I wasn't paying attention to proper fan mounting, but managed to straighten them. They are light spring steel clips which you can easily bend out of shape. Ensure you pay attention to how you mount fans. Noctua fan mounting is a better design.

Additional Comments:

Excellent cooling. Cools more than Noctua NH-D9L for less $$ and MUCH cooler than my supplied AM4 stock cooler. I can hear the fan when CPU is working hard, but it is comparably less noisy than stock cooler. USED with Ryzen 9 3900 processor. Processor over-clocks like a champ with this cooler with proper ventilation in my computer case. Because the cooler is so HUGE, I would recommend installing a fan cage cover over the intake fan or employ proper cable management to mitigate fan blades hitting cables. I definitely recommend this cooler to other enthusiasts. Very good value!

BUY THIS COOLER!

Strengths:

Fantastic thermals Beautiful aesthetics Colour options are great Easy installation Great instructions Comes with everything you'll need. Fairly low profile for a cooling tower, didn't interfere with any components Quiet

Weaknesses:

None

Additional Comments:

I am running a Intel i7 8700 Overclocked to 4500Mhz. The stock CPU cooler couldn't keep the CPU under 85 degrees under load. I haven't broken 60 degrees with this new cooler!! We're talking a 25 deg difference! For under $80... It's amazing and super quiet. Installation was a breeze and the instructions were great.

Dropped 20C from stock cooler under load!

Strengths:

Huge thermal mass, easy to install. Dropped my temp from 83C to 63C while running cinebench. Increased my cinebench score (R23, multicore) by 400!. My CPU has no problem autoboosting to 4.2 GHz now, usually capped out at ~3.9 before. Matches my black and white build.

Weaknesses:

Much bigger than I expected, -just- fits in my case. Not really a weakness just make sure you consider the size. Also weighs like 2 pounds! Don't be bouncing your tower around with this thing installed. About as loud as my stock Wraith Spire, but with the huge drop in temp I can run the fans much slower and still get better temps.

Additional Comments:

Got this to replace the stock Wraith Spire cooler that came with my Ryzen 5 2600X. Huge drop in temps, not much difference in noise level. This cooler is -big- and -heavy-. Would definitely recommend.

Caution AM4 users

Additional Comments:

Certain AM4 motherboards won't fit the backplate, and the tower will hang loose. In my case, I have a Strix B450-F. I have read forum posts from others with B450s having the same problem. The included standoffs won't fit all AMD motherboards. You can mail Arctic a support ticket to get a replacement bracket, but if you are running Ryzen, out of the box it may not work correctly.

Beyond expectations

Strengths:

Quiet Looks sharp without being obnoxious or boring Great cooling Easy install

Weaknesses:

None

Additional Comments:

Second AIO leaked on me so I’ve gone back to air cooling. This was one of the only ones in my price range in stock at the time. Never heard of it or seen reviews. Blown away. Super easy to install. Cools just as good as my 280 AIO and is much quieter. No more leaks!

Solid Good Looking Cooler

Strengths:

Cools well White accent matched my build

Weaknesses:

A little expensive

Additional Comments:

Running Cinebench R20 on a loop, it kept my Ryzen 5 3600XT at a constant 74 degrees that quickly dropped at the end of testing. Gaming it stays in the sixties. It does exactly what it should without being overly loud.

Excellent Cooler

Additional Comments:

I wanted to switch out from my liquid cooler (Deepcool GamerStorm 240EX) on my gaming rig (I5-7600K, 1080ti, Z270 mobo). I thought it was cooling ok but started worrying about leaking after a year. Picked up this air cooler and man what a difference... gave it some hard testing and the air cooler kept my cpu temps much lower than my liquid cooler ever did. It is clearly helping move more heat out of the whole case as gpu temps are down a bit as well. Installation is dirt simple and the quality and feel of the whole unit is nice. As far as noise goes I have 6 other very quiet fans in my case and I can't hear any more noise than before even when running hard. Would definitely buy again.
