No Complaints

Strengths:

Nice looking board. Support for 3x M.2 drives. A heat shield is included for 2 of them. Toolless installation latches for all the M.2 drives. 9x USB-A ports on the back. 2x SATA ports at the bottom that utilize a 90 degree SATA cable nicely. EZ Debug LEDs.

Weaknesses:

Would be nice to have a USB 2 header near the top of the board for CPU coolers with a USB cable. Only 1 USB-C port on the back. No RGB on the board, would be nice to a lighting option if people want it.

Additional Comments:

The board does exactly what I'm looking for. CPU and memory ran at the advertised speeds.

B650 Problems

Strengths:

When it works, it's just barely OK in terms of performance. LinuxMint 20.3 installed and finds and uses the WiFi. See below on Win 11. On my install of the windows OS, I had downloaded Win10 created the USB bot stick according to descriptions. BUT half way thru the install it started installing Win 11!!! WHY? I then had to get a license for Win11 as my Win10 license wouldn't work.

Weaknesses:

Tried to install Win11 on the nvme card. The OS does install but does not recognise the WiFi device on install. Downloaded the new WiFi, BTooth and chipset drivers and installed. no wifi on reboot. Updated BIOS and no change. This is the second MB with a LOT of wasted time installing and re-installing and install the newest drivers from MSI. Boot to POST is very long and variable from 25 to 40+ sec. with no reason that I can discover. I finally took out the nvme. Boot tomes to POST are now 20 to 30 sec, still TOO long. I had an older install of Win 10 on a hard drive, booted it and it found the WiFi device, loaded the driver and worked after on reboot!! What's the matter with Win 11?! This is the second MB from Memory Express as they wouldn't give me a refund even though I had a VERY valid reason for being unable to return the product in 30 days. I am reconsidering doing any business with Memory Express.

Additional Comments:

Configuration with 6 sata devices and 1 nvme, this MB, 32 GB ram and Ryzen 5-7600. This is the worst MB I have aver tried to build a system with and I have built dozens over the years. I have spent over 12 days on tying to resolve issues to no avail. I think there are problems with the B650 chipset and Win 11 chipset drivers. I do not recommend this board.

More than Adequate

Strengths:

This is my first PC build, and so far the motherboard has proved to be quite strong!

Weaknesses:

The only weakness is that it takes 2 boot cycles to fully turn on, which is a problem I have not yet been able to fix.

Additional Comments:

Other than that, ( 2 boot cycles ) no complaints!

Slow boot times, but otherwise it's great

Strengths:

Strong VRMs for the price. Runs my Ryzen 9 7900X no problem. No built-in RGB lighting or weird aesthetic choices. Includes a higher quality ALC4080 audio codec, something the similarly priced Gigabyte motherboards do not include.

Weaknesses:

The boot times for this motherboard are really, really slow. Takes thirty seconds or longer sometimes just to get to the UEFI splash screen from a cold start. Don't know if this is an MSI or AM5 issue, but literally every other computer I've ever used reached their respective UEFI/BIOS window faster than this.

Additional Comments:

If you want a good performing AM5 motherboard with a clean aesthetic, this is the one to pick.

Shoutout

Strengths:

A fine Mobo that meets all my needs. The cost is good compared to other brands. Seems very reliable. Happy with my choice.

Weaknesses:

Doesn't support my existing RAM.

Additional Comments:

Overall, a board with all you need for a mid to high range build and it has a nice simple aesthetic which I like!

This review is for the MSI Review Rebate Program

Strengths:

-80A SPS VRM -Probably the 4th best motherboard on B650 behind the Taichi, Aorus Master and the Carbon -Great temps for all sensors, nothing above 60C during Cinebench with a 7950x -Run 6000 memory CL30 without any issues -One of the best onboard audio on B650 -Realtek ALC4080, one of the best audio codec offering on B650 -7.1 -Optical S/PDIF Out connector -HDMI 2.1 -Wifi 6 and BT 5.2 -No RGB, No LCDs, No Bling Bling -Price

Weaknesses:

-Some bugs with the sensors in hwinfo, I have an erroneous value called T0 reporting 80C on idle which is not showing in the BIOS -No PCIe 5.0 -The third NVMe is sharing the PCIe lines with the PCIe X16 slot 2

Additional Comments:

7950x Noctua NH-D15 Black Trident Z5 Neo 6000 CL30 MSI MAG Tomahawk B650 AMD 6900XT reference WD SN850N Fractal Design Newton+ 1000W Platinum PSU Fractal Torrent This motherboard is IMO the only sane purchase on AM5 at this moment. It can run all the 7000 CPUs easily and will probably handle a 32° C version easily to. The VRMs on this thing are some of the best and it cannot be matched for the asking price. Also, this motherboard is IMO the best looking motherboard on AM5. I can't stand paying for RGBs or aesthetic gimmicks, so it is the perfect board for my taste. You got pretty much all the best features you can ask for, however the elephant in the room is that this board should have been a B650E. The lack of PCIe 5.0 is a huge compromise for me, however there is no indication that we are going to see any PCIe 5.0 devices anytime soon. I would say to just let it go and wait to see if you need it in the future. That was my decision or just buying an Asus x670E-Creator with all the IOs AM5 can provide in this price range, however the VRMs on the Tomahawk are actually better. I decided the sane option and I don't regret it. This board is easily the best AM5 motherboard option IMO ATM.
